Don Rae Academy provides dance and drama classes for children, combining movement, acting, creativity and performance in one engaging programme. Our classes are designed to help children explore performing arts while developing confidence, communication, teamwork and creative skills in a supportive environment.
Each class is designed to balance learning with enjoyment. Children are encouraged to take part, try new activities and work with others during each session. The aim is to create an experience where children can develop performing arts skills while becoming more comfortable expressing themselves. This makes the programme suitable for children who enjoy dancing and acting, as well as those who want to discover an activity in a supportive setting.
Our classes focus on practical learning, participation and progression. Children can develop creative, physical and performance skills through regular activities and preparation for performances.
Our dance and drama classes bring together practical activities that encourage children to move, perform, communicate and create. Children can explore dance routines, acting exercises, storytelling, improvisation, character work, movement and performance.
Performing arts provide children with opportunities to express themselves in a positive and encouraging environment. Drama activities can help children practise speaking, listening and performing, while dance encourages expression through movement.
The Don Rae Academy programme also works towards an end-of-term performance. Children can learn scripts, songs and dances and work together to create a finished production. This gives them a clear goal and allows them to apply the skills they have developed during their regular classes.
Our classes combine structured teaching with creative activities. Children can take part in planned exercises while having opportunities to use their imagination and develop their own performance skills
Themed learning can make sessions engaging by connecting scripts, songs, dances and activities around a shared idea. This approach allows children to see how different performing arts skills work together as part of a complete performance.
Don Rae Academy is led by experienced performing arts professionals. The current team includes teachers who are professional performers, with training backgrounds that include ArtsEd, Doreen Bird and the Central School of Speech and Drama.
Founder and Creative Director Don Rae studied Musical Theatre at The BRIT School and graduated from Roehampton University with a BA Hons degree in Drama and Theatre Studies. His performance and teaching experience has helped shape the academy’s approach to dance, drama and performance.
Children can join dance and drama classes with different levels of experience. Some may already enjoy performing, while others may be trying a performing arts class for the first time.
The academy programme provides opportunities for children to participate, practise and develop their skills. Children can also explore different areas of performing arts as their interests grow, including dance, drama, street dance and teenage drama.
Don Rae Academy’s academy programme provides regular weekly classes alongside performance preparation. Current academy information states that classes last one and a half hours and that students work towards an end-of-term performance.
