Drama Classes for Children

Don Rae Academy provides engaging drama classes for children who want to explore acting, storytelling and performance in a supportive environment. Our classes encourage children to use their imagination, develop communication skills and become more confident when expressing themselves.

Drama gives children the opportunity to explore different characters, stories and situations while learning practical performance techniques. Whether a child already enjoys acting or is completely new to drama, our classes provide structured activities that encourage participation, creativity and progression.

What Children Learn

Drama can help children develop a wide range of creative and performance skills, including:

Acting and characterisation

Storytelling and improvisation

Creative thinking

Voice projection

Facial expression

Stage presence

Communication

Teamwork

Children's Drama Classes

Our drama classes combine acting exercises, improvisation, storytelling, character development and performance activities. Children are encouraged to take part in practical exercises rather than simply learning about drama.

Sessions can help children explore how characters communicate, how stories are developed and how performers use voice, movement and expression.

Children can also learn how to work as part of an ensemble. Group activities encourage listening, cooperation and awareness of other performers while creating scenes and performances.

Working Towards Performance

Performance is an important part of the Don Rae Academy programme. Children can work towards an end-of-term production where they can apply the skills developed during their regular classes.

The programme can include scripts, characters, songs and performance activities connected through a theme. This gives children a clear goal and allows them to experience the process of preparing for a finished production.

Preparing for a performance can encourage children to practise lines, remember instructions, listen carefully and work collaboratively.

Acting and Character Development

Character work is an important part of drama. Children can explore different personalities, situations and emotions while learning how performers communicate a character to an audience.

Through acting exercises, children can practise using their voice, facial expressions and body language. They can also learn how to respond to other performers and maintain a character during a scene.

Improvisation provides another way for children to develop creativity. It encourages them to respond to situations, think quickly and contribute ideas while working with others.

Building Confidence Through Performance

Performing arts provide children with opportunities to express themselves in a positive and encouraging environment. Drama activities can help children practise speaking, listening and performing, while dance encourages expression through movement.

The Don Rae Academy programme also works towards an end-of-term performance. Children can learn scripts, songs and dances and work together to create a finished production. This gives them a clear goal and allows them to apply the skills they have developed during their regular classes.

A Creative Learning Environment

Our drama classes provide a structured environment where children can explore their creativity.

Activities are planned to keep children involved while introducing different aspects of acting and performance. Children can work individually, in pairs and as part of a group.

This variety allows children to experience different performance situations and develop skills through practical participation.
