Don Rae Academy provides engaging dance classes for children who want to develop movement, coordination and performance skills in a friendly and structured environment. Our sessions combine dance training with creativity and performance, giving children an opportunity to learn routines, work with others.
Whether your child already loves dancing or is discovering dance for the first time, our classes encourage participation and steady development. Children can build confidence through movement while learning how to follow choreography, listen to direction and perform as part of a group.
Dance provides children with opportunities to develop physical and creative skills. Through regular participation, children can work on:
Our children’s dance classes introduce children to important dance and performance skills through practical activities. Sessions encourage movement, rhythm, coordination and expression.
Children can learn dance routines, practise sequences and develop their ability to remember and perform choreography. Group activities also encourage children to work together and understand how individual movements contribute to a complete routine. Sessions can also help children develop concentration, listening skills and awareness of others while performing.
Children can enjoy learning at their own pace in class.
Performance is an important part of the Don Rae Academy experience. Dance classes help children understand how preparation, practice and teamwork contribute to a finished performance.
The academy programme includes preparation for an end-of-term performance, where children can bring together skills developed during regular sessions. Songs, dances and other performance elements can be connected through a theme, giving children a clear creative goal.
Working towards a performance gives children an opportunity to practise routines, develop stage awareness and experience the achievement of performing with their group. It also provides a practical way to see how regular practice can improve performance.
Dance can provide children with a positive way to express themselves. It encourages physical activity while giving children a creative outlet through music and movement. Performing a routine in front of others may initially feel challenging, but regular practice can help children become more comfortable with movement and performance.
Children can develop confidence by learning new routines, practising with classmates and seeing their progress over time.
Our drama classes provide a structured environment where children can explore their creativity.
Activities are planned to keep children involved while introducing different aspects of acting and performance. Children can work individually, in pairs and as part of a group.
This variety allows children to experience different performance situations and develop skills through practical participation.
Don Rae Academy’s classes are supported by a team with professional performing arts experience. Current team information states that teachers are professional performers, with training backgrounds including ArtsEd, Doreen Bird and the Central School of Speech and Drama.

Children can join dance classes with different levels of previous experience. Some may already attend dance activities, while others may be taking part for the first time.
The aim is to provide children with opportunities to participate, practise and progress.
