Understanding the cost of children’s dance and drama classes is an important part of choosing the right performing arts programme. Don Rae Academy provides academy sessions combining dance, drama and performance, with fees and payment information available to help families plan their child’s participation.
Our academy programme provides regular weekly performing arts sessions where children can develop skills in dance, drama, acting and performance while working towards an end-of-term production
Don Rae Academy’s academy programme is based around regular weekly sessions.
Current academy information states that classes last one and a half hours. Regular attendance gives children the opportunity to become familiar with the programme, develop their performance skills and work towards productions.
The weekly format also allows children to build relationships with other participants and become part of a creative group.
Academy sessions provide a combination of dance, drama and performing arts activities.
The programme is designed to provide variety while helping children develop skills progressively. The academy programme also includes preparation for an end-of-term performance. This gives children an opportunity to apply what they have learnt during their regular sessions.
Current academy sessions are scheduled at selected locations:
Spaces are capped so every child gets time on stage. Waiting lists move quickly each half term.
Academy classes are designed to provide children with practical experience of performing arts.
Dance activities can develop rhythm, coordination, movement and choreography. Drama activities can develop acting, characterisation, storytelling, improvisation and communication.
Working towards a performance also gives children opportunities to practise routines, learn material and perform as part of a group.
An end-of-term performance forms part of the current academy programme.
Preparing for a performance gives children a clear goal and allows them to see how their skills develop throughout the term. Children can work on scripts, songs and dances while learning how to perform as part of an ensemble.
The performance experience can also help children become more familiar with stage work and develop confidence in presenting their skills.
Don Rae Academy’s current team includes professional performers and teachers with performing arts training. Team members have trained at institutions including ArtsEd, Doreen Bird and the Central School of Speech and Drama.
Founder and Creative Director Don Rae studied Musical Theatre at The BRIT School and graduated from Roehampton University with a BA Hons degree in Drama and Theatre Studies.
This professional experience supports the academy’s practical approach to dance, drama and performance.
When considering an academy class, it is useful to look at the child’s age, interests and preferred activities, as well as the available day and time.
Children interested in performing can explore dance, drama and other specialist activities through the wider Don Rae Academy programme.
